Symposium Conclusions and Links

The goal of the 2008 Mayo Clinic National Symposium on Health Care Reform was to identify and prioritize concrete action steps, for both the private sector and government, that would help create a high-performance health care system.

More than 400 participants worked together to develop a list of proposed action steps, and then voted on which ones would have the greatest impact. Read the summary here.

Here are some reactions from other bloggers:

On HealthBlawg, David Harlow said the symposium generated “more light than heat,” which is significantly better than the all-too-typical events which create “more heat than light.” Here’s an excerpt of his post:

The value this group can bring to the table — so long as it is able to avoid the stigma associated with HillaryCare I, which would be no mean feat — is in fleshing out some workable details for each of these high-level areas of interest.  Whether this can be accomplished remains to be seen.

On CodeBlueNow!, Kathleen O’Connor captured the spirit of the event when she said:

While the Mayo Clinic may have come to some solid conclusions about what their members and colleagues want in health care reform, what was so refreshing to me is that they were not pushing any agenda down people’s throats and were very committed to listening to what the attendees have to say.

And on Health Care Reform Now!, George Williams highlights the podcast we have recently created, which will have all of the audio recordings from the symposiums plenary sessions.
