Denis Cortese, M.D., Mayo Clinic’s president and chief executive officer, will be the featured speaker on Friday, March 21 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cortese’s speech will begin at 1 p.m. ET and will be entitled “Creating a Health Care System That Works for Americans.” He will address the need for health care reform and share policy recommendations from the recent Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center National Symposium on Health Care Reform, held March 9-11 in Leesburg, VA. Dr. Cortese will be joined at the head table by patients Donna Jones and Marcie Roth.

The address will be carried live on many NPR stations, and will be available live via webcast from the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center Web site. We will also plan to make the audio file part of the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Podcast.

In other Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center news, Robert Smoldt, executive director emeritus of the Mayo Clinic HPC, will also be speaking about health reform efforts at the Spring Conference of the Association of Government Risk Pools, in Phoenix, Ariz. on Tuesday, March 18. His address is entitled, “What Is Required To Improve U.S. Healthcare?”
