Creating Value and Paying for It

There are many elements to health care reform, but underlying everything is the issue of value. If value isn’t created in the system, health care reform will not benefit patients. What do we mean by value? Denis Cortese, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic, explains what value is in this video.

Hand-in-hand with creating value, is paying for value. Currently, for example, Medicare pays the most to providers in areas of the country who provide the worst value and pays the least to providers in areas of the country who are providing the best value.

Without better value in our system, patients will continue to pay too much for too little.
