Mayo Clinic in Time Magazine

Mayo Clinic is featured in the June 29 issue of Time Magazine in an article called “More Data + Less Care = Lower Cost + Better Health.” Senior Correspondent Mike Grunwald visited Mayo Clinic in late May and spent two days interviewing several Mayo physician leaders, observing a Hospice meeting and visiting a patient.

Grunwald says “…Mayo also provides tremendous value for ordinary care; its flagship hospital spent just more than half as much per patient in the last two years of life as did the UCLA Medical Center.”

I applaud Mayo Clinic for being involved with this major effort to revamp our Health Care System. Mayo stands for excellence of care for all patients irregardless of color, race or social status. Every hospital should try to mirror Mayo’s Health Care Delivery system. I believe America has the best health care system in the whole universe. That’s why people from all over the world come to America for medical care. The health care reimbursements is what is failing. The government should invest more in putting more money for Medicare as soon as the baby boomers become part of this failing system. It should help reimburse hospitals for the care of indigent patients and patients who opted not to buy health insurance for their family. There has to be a way to impose on families who can afford to buy health care insurance to buy a low cost insurance which can provide for basic care and preventive care, just as every state require that every driver has a car insurance. Indigents should be given a health care card ran by state governments so that when they present themselves to clinic or hospitals their health care insurance is already in place.
    Thanks.
